If you are not autistic, please, please do not pat me on the head and tell me I’m “doing such a good job despite my autism” or tell me you “love me despite it.”
That’s pretty dehumanizing. Think about if I said that to you but replaced autism with your hair or eye color or something going on in your brain.
Just understand that I’m a little different, but don’t put me up on a pedestal. I’m a person, too.
just gonna say this: if someone has social anxiety and they ask you something akin to ‘are you mad at me’ or ‘do you hate me’, it isn’t because they don’t trust you, it’s because their brain literally tells them that all the time
it’s not a personal slight, it’s insecurity caused by mental illness
